Articulating Arm and Touch Bar
Articulating Arm - MM
🦾 Kathryn’s Mom does amazing cross-stitch (and also makes tutorial videos online). I consulted with her about how to upgrade her set-up for making the videos because the current method involves a lot of precarious and uncomfortable equipment arrangement. After some discussion it was decided she needed a mechanical arm.
The new purchase she made was this fantastic PhotoExtend Articulating Camera Arm:
This is my last improvement from Kathryn’s parents house. Next week I’m in a hotel, and then finally I’ll be home in Los Angeles!
💻 Configure the Touch Bar - CM
I mostly use my laptop at my desk, attached to a monitor -- especially since I can't take it anywhere else. When the computer is on a stand I use an external keyboard, so the Touch Bar is off to the side and not particularly useful. Heck, even when it's within reach, I never really took to using it.
Using BetterTouchTool, though, allows me to set up a few functions that I do use somewhat frequently.
Here's a screenshot:
After the volume slider, I have a few buttons: One with quick access to the emoji picker and one for the OmniFocus quick entry. There are keyboard shortcuts for these, but I rarely remember what they are, and I use them just infrequently enough that it hasn't reached muscle memory.
The next two let me quickly pair a couple of bluetooth headphones, and the color changes to green when they are connected.
On the right, I have the date, time and battery status. Having them in the Touch bar means I can keep my menu bar a little more simple.
